Kiba and Jori

As morning breached the deep blue skies of night, the clouds nearest the sun were painted in gold behind an ocean blue. The fields, draped in bushels of purple flowers, swayed and bounced in the wind like the thick curls of the woman who walked through them.

The sun was sitting just above the horizon, so the trees lining the edge of Leena’s portion of land appeared black in the foreground against the brightening sky. She sat herself down by one of the thicker Rimla bushes, leaning against Sholay, her german shepherd companion. Suddenly, the bush at her side began to rustle violently, several petals flying off from the sheer force of its vibrating. Sholay began to bark loudly, placing herself between the bush and where Leena now stood standing, a few meters away. From the bush came several squeaking noises and after a few seconds, out popped two small creatures in a vicious-looking brawl, tugging at one small necklace. Leena opened her mouth to scream and found that no sound was coming out and as she thought she was going to begin hyperventilating, she found that her breath escaped her. A final sharp bark from Sholay stopped the fighting creatures in their tracks. Finally able to get a good look at them, Leena observed that they looked like a cross between an elf and a fairy; standing at a mere two feet tall, they didn’t appear all that harmless, but based on the fight Leena had witnesses, she knew that was not the case. They separated, having spotted Leena gaping at them in horror, and the one to the left, a light lavender hue, scratched its head awkwardly, and uttered a quiet, “...um hi?”

“UM HI?” barked the one to the right, a pastel teal. Sholay yelped and took a step back. “UM HI is what you have to say, Jori?? You could’ve said absolutely nothing and we could’ve walked away, but you had to say ‘UM HI’??”

“Well she already saw us Kiba,” said the one called Jori, his arm indicating towards an awestruck Leena, “what’s the big deal anyway; Appo isn’t here to scream at us. We can reason with it.”

Before Kiba could respond, Jori turned to Leena, “HELLO. WE COME IN PEACE. PLEASE DO NOT BE ALARMED OR WE WILL BE IN DEEP SHIT,” he said loudly, enunciating each syllable.

“QUIET DOWN.” growled Kiba.

By this moment, Leena was finally able to find her voice, at which point she hoarsely let out a few sounds she swore were supposed to have been words.

“Dammit, Jori, now we gotta take it to Appo.” Kiba snapped. At which point the last thing Leena would remember is a yelp from Sholay and Jori flying directly at her face.
